March 2014 saw the introduction of the Building Control Amended Regulations (BCAR), requiring a continued focus on compliance with building regulations from design stage to completion. Key among many aspects of the new regulations is the requirement for the assigned certifier to certify compliance with the various existing building regulations from A to M. This includes Part E – Sound.

Based upon the definition as per building control regulation 2014, this work is to be completed by an Ancillary Certifier.

In order to confirm compliance with building regulations acoustics Part-E, pre-completion acoustic testing is generally required. Technical Guidance Document Part-E Sound building regulations 1997 details the current requirements in relation to sound insulation.

Such testing must be undertaken to the appropriate international standards and must be completed by a competent person. With in-depth experience of the field of architectural acoustics, iAcoustics offers a complete design/inspection/testing service which fulfills all the requirements as per building control regulation 2014.

What are Part E Building regulations?

Part-E of the Building Regulations deals with sound in dwellings. Its aim is to ensure that dwellings achieve a reasonable degree of sound insulation from adjoining buildings, or separate dwellings within the same unit. It, therefore, sets residential acoustics performance standards for party walls and floors separating dwellings.
