Workplace Noise Assessment

Global Fresh Exotics Ltd is a fruit and vegetable packaging facility located in Ashbourne, Co. Meath, specialising in the processing and distribution of fresh produce. At iAcoustics, we were commissioned to conduct a workplace noise assessment at their facility, focusing on the impact of food packaging machinery, refrigeration units, and goods movement equipment. Our assessment involved measuring ambient noise levels and machinery-specific noise levels across key areas of the site to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and to safeguard employee wellbeing. Such assessments are essential to ensure a safe work environment and to prevent workplace noise induced hearing loss.

Initially, certain noise levels in a workplace may not appear to pose an immediate risk to hearing. Sounds from machinery or equipment can seem moderate or manageable. However, over time, regular exposure to moderate noise throughout the workday can gradually have an impact. Prolonged periods of exposure, even at moderate levels, can lead to changes in hearing that may go unnoticed at first. This is why noise management and protective measures are important, ensuring that long-term exposure does not affect employees’ hearing health.
