iAcoustics (through our Sister Company Smart Studio) provides expert Dolby Atmos calibration services, ensuring your studio is precision-tuned for accurate monitoring and seamless mix translation across all platforms. Our hands-on approach optimises speaker placement, system alignment, and room acoustics to meet Dolby specifications while enhancing your studio’s natural sound.
We are specialists in Dolby Atmos calibration, speaker system alignment, and studio acoustic optimisation. We work with both new and existing studios to ensure your monitoring environment meets Dolby specifications, while enhancing the natural acoustic response of your room.
Our calibration process begins with a detailed review of your studio layout and speaker selection, using the Dolby Audio Room Design Tool (DARDT) to confirm that speaker placement and SPL performance are suitable for your room dimensions and listening position. We assess the capabilities of your monitor controller, ensuring it allows for the necessary adjustments to individual channel levels, EQ, time alignment, and subwoofer integration.
On-site, we carry out precision acoustic measurements using omnidirectional and ambisonic microphones to capture detailed room data, including RTA frequency response, transfer functions, phase coherence, impulse responses, and RT60 decay times. This data informs the next stage—speaker optimisation. We fine-tune speaker positioning and angles to minimise destructive interference, ensure phase coherence between subwoofers and main speakers, and time-align all channels so that sound from each speaker arrives perfectly at the mix position.
Subwoofer positioning is carefully assessed, and bass management systems are configured to ensure smooth low-frequency extension without phase issues. Our engineers calibrate SPL levels to Dolby standards (typically 79-85 dBC), applying system EQ only as a final step—used sparingly to balance room anomalies without compromising the natural voicing of your speakers.
Where required, we can also assess and advise on room acoustic treatment, particularly low-frequency control. Our goal is to reduce reliance on DSP correction by addressing acoustic issues at their source, ensuring your monitoring system delivers accurate imaging, balanced frequency response, and reliable mix translation across all playback environments.
